  • Supplies - Brush basin, palette, paper towels, tracing & transfer paper, pencil, stylus, scotch tape, scissors, sandpaper, tack cloth, 2 old buttons, E6000 glue, 3-ply jute, 2 ea 3" pieces DMC yarn, loopy yarn for beard, 1/4" wood ball, 1/8" X 8" dowel, 1/4" mini-check stencil, black Identi-pen
  • Wood Kit, available from The Woodshed (1-828-749-7711) OR, if making your own: 1/4" Wood, 3/4" Wood

  •     Instructions
    PREPARATION
    Note: If using kit, skip to step 3.

    1. Use pattern to cut body from 3/4" wood and tree, hat brim, star, sign and shoes from 1/4" wood. Drill 1/8" hole in center bottom of sign.

    2. Sand, seal with Americana Matte Spray, sand again and wipe with tack cloth.

    3. Transfer basic pattern lines to Santa.

    4. Glue nose to face and let dry.

    PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS
    1. Basecoat face Medium Flesh; shade around face Light Cinnamon. Dot eyes Lamp Black.

    2. Basecoat hat brim and ball on hat with Khaki Tan, above brim with Forest Green. Add stripes with Wedgewood Blue, Alizarin Crimson and Khaki Tan; shade with Light Cinnamon. Add lines with Lamp Black and paint star with Antique Gold. Use Identi-pen to add stitching.

    3. Shirt is Alizarin Crimson. Use stencil to apply Russet checks shaded with Lamp Black. With Buttermilk, add light crosshatching on sides of tummy.

    4. Paint gloves, belt and suspenders Lamp Black; highlight Buttermilk. Buckle is Khaki Tan, shaded Light Cinnamon on left side and highlighted Buttermilk on right side.

    5. Basecoat pants Deep Midnight Blue; shade sides and down center Buttermilk. Shoes are Lamp Black with Buttermilk highlights.

    6. Basecoat tree Avocado; stipple Hauser Dark Green.

    7. Basecoat sign Buttermilk, dowel Light Cinnamon and band around sign Lamp Black. Shade inside sign Light Cinnamon. Add lettering with Identi-pen.

    8. Stipple hat brim and ball on end of hat Buttermilk.

    FINISHING INSTRUCTIONS
    1. Referring to photo for placement, glue brim to hat and star to brim.

    2. Make bundle of loopy yarn for beard by wrapping yarn around fingers a few times. Slide off and cut one end of loops. Tie a piece of yarn around center into knot to secure. Glue under nose.

    3. Run a 3" piece of DMC yarn through each button and knot. Glue buttons to belt at bottom of suspenders.

    4. Glue shoes on. Make bows from jute and glue to top of shoes.

    5. Glue tree to back of Santa.

    6. Spray entire piece with Americana Matte Spray.
