  •     Instructions
    PREPARATION
    1. Remove hinges. Sand, tack and seal back cover, spine, and inside front cover. Basecoat these areas with Hauser Dark Green.

    2. Apply fabric to unsealed front cover. Cut fabric so it extends about 1/2" past edges of cover.

    3. Brush cover generously with Multi-Purpose Sealer. Lay fabric over sealer; rub to remove air bubbles.

    4. Brush another generous layer of sealer over fabric. Let dry.

    5. When dry, sand lightly and trim edges of fabric close to wood.

    6. Trace design, using tracing paper and pencil. Center design and transfer teddy and basket outline, using transfer paper and stylus.

    PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS
    Helpful Hints: To load rake brush, thin paint to consistency of ink. Pick up lots of paint on both sides of brush. Hold handle perpendicular to surface and press ferrule onto palette, fanning bristles out. Walk the brush back to separate bristles.

    Basket
    1. Basecoat Santa Red. Transfer basket design details. Paint horizontal weavers and vertical spokes using rake brush, full width. Brush first with Hauser Medium Green, then Hauser Dark Green, letting some red show through. (See Step 1 of color step-by-step.)

    2. Paint dark corners between weavers and spokes Prussian Blue. (See Step 2.)

    3. Paint red edges of weavers and spokes with Santa Red (Step 2). Refer to Step 3 of step-by-step while doing the next six steps.

    4. Shade each weaver and spoke where one goes under the other, using Hauser Dark Green, Hauser Dark Green plus Prussian Blue and Black Forest Green.

    5. Add highlights by dry-brushing Limeade on center front weavers and spokes.

    6. Add line work to dampened surface using Santa Red, Hauser Dark Green, and Limeade.

    7. Shade edges of basket Hauser Dark Green plus Prussian Blue and Black Forest Green.

    8. Add rim and handle using filbert brush and Hauser Medium Green. Add red detail with S-strokes using filbert, then finer lines with liner using Hauser Dark Green and Hauser Medium Green. Add fewer liner brush accent lines using Santa Red, Prussian Blue and Glorious Gold.

    9. Shade basket, under rim, on rim next to bear and on handle to separate from rim using Hauser Dark Green, Hauser Dark Green plus Prussian Blue and Black Forest Green.

    Bear
    Helpful Hint: Bear is stippled wet into wet to add shadows and highlights. Paint head first, then ears, then snout and body.

    1. Basecoat by stippling with deerfoot brush using Toffee; shade Light Cinnamon; highlight Light Buttermilk. (See Step 1 of color step-by-step.)

    2. Add darker tints in shadow areas with glaze of Dark Chocolate, using wash of paint to allow underpainting to remain visible. Tint lightly with Napa Red (Step 2). Refer to Step 3 of color step-by-step for the next three steps.

    3. Basecoat eyes Light Buttermilk with pupil of Dark Chocolate plus Prussian Blue (dark brown). Line eye with same color. Add Light Buttermilk in 1 o'clock position.

    4. Basecoat nose Dark Chocolate plus Prussian Blue. Add Light Buttermilk highlight.

    5. Basecoat bow Santa Red; shade Napa Red and Napa Red plus Prussian Blue; highlight Cadmium Red.

    Rocking Horse
    1. Basecoat Toffee. Shade with light wash of Light Cinnamon.

    2. Paint mane and tail with liner strokes, using Dark Chocolate and Glorious Gold. Eye is dot of Light Cinnamon; saddle Santa Red shaded with Napa Red plus Prussian Blue, then embellished with Glorious Gold; stirrup lined first with Dark Chocolate plus Prussian Blue, then Glorious Gold.

    Balls
    1. Basecoat one Santa Red; shade Napa Red, then Prussian Blue; highlight with Cadmium Red.

    2. Basecoat one Light Buttermilk plus Prussian Blue; shade Prussian Blue, then Prussian Blue plus tad Napa Red; highlight with Light Buttermilk plus tad Prussian Blue.

    3. Basecoat one Hauser Medium Green; shade Hauser Dark Green, then Hauser Dark Green plus Prussian Blue; highlight Limeade.

    4. Hangers are Glorious Gold, shaded with Prussian Blue.

    Evergreen
    1. Keep branches curved slightly. Basecoat with rake brush, using Hauser Dark Green.

    2. Add liner brush detail with Hauser Dark Green, Prussian Blue, Hauser Medium Green, and Limeade. Embellish with a few strokes of Glorious Gold.

    Finishing Instructions
    1. Varnish with DuraClear Varnish.

    2. Secure front to back with hinges.
