  •     Instructions
    PREPARATION
    1. With sponge brush, paint 2 coats of Bright Green on inside of box and underside of lid.

    2. With sponge brush, paint 2 to 3 coats of Oyster Pearl on outside of box and top of lid, including lid sides.

    3. Paint one coat of White Pearl over Oyster Pearl.

    4. When dry, transfer pattern of dashed lines to box lid using ruler. Lightly pencil in dashed lines where the ribbons will go and heavier dots where the buttons will go. Don't outline the ribbon itself.

    5. For the sides of the box, use smaller ribbon pattern and transfer by taping traced pattern completely around box. Place main ribbon pattern lower on sides to allow for lid to come down a bit.

    PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS
    1. Using #10 flat brush, load with Misty Mauve. Begin ribbon at "button dot" and stand the brush up on its edge so as to have a narrow ribbon. Brush should be perpendicular to button dot. As you begin the ribbon, twist your brush so that the chisel edge is pulling away from the dot, laying the brush in a parallel position to the dot. After it has reached the center of the ribbon, begin twisting it a 1/4" turn again and draw up to the chiseled edge as you finish the other end of the ribbon.

    2. Complete all ribbons on lid and sides, using one or two coats. In center of each ribbon, do a double flip-flop float of White Cloud to add a sheen to each ribbon, using #10 flat brush.

    3. Using #10 flat brush, float a shading into each end of ribbons using the darker corresponding color (for example, for Misty Mauve, shade with Beautiful Burgundy, Angel Blue with Country Blue, Moon Yellow with Golden Halo and Patina Green with Hunter Green). Walk the float out toward center.

(Hint: Don't use water before loading corner of brush for shading, but blend well into brush first.)

    4. Float along outside tips of each ribbon, where it narrows to meet button with Pewter. Do both sides of each ribbon.

(Hint: This step takes a while, but it gives a three-dimensional look.)

    5. Using #4 flat brush and Beautiful Burgundy, stroke in some simple roses using a loaded brush. Start at the top with three small C strokes, then do the cup of the rose using the standard 2-stroke method. Do the left and right side strokes using comma strokes, plus two more comma strokes beneath them. Finish the bottom of the rose with a chiseled edge first, turning the brush slightly toward the flat edge and back to the chiseled edge. Place a rose inside each ribbon square at slightly different angles from one another.

    6. Double load the #4 flat brush with Patina Green and Hunter Green for the leaves. Start at the base of the leaf, then twist the brush slightly to end up on the chiseled edge of the brush. Place 3 leaves at the base of each rose.

    7. Using White Pearl and a stylus, dot along the ribbon's edge.

    FINISHING INSTRUCTIONS
    1. Spray the project with Americana Matte Spray and allow to dry completely.

    2. Glue buttons on lid and ribbon around lid edge using white glue.
