PREPARATION
1. Dust canvas photo album lightly with a damp rag.
2. Spray with two coats of Americana Matte Spray, allowing to dry between coats.
PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Apply a generous amount of Brush 'n Blend Extender to the surface of the album to provide a wet surface for painting and blending.
2. Pour puddles of Toffee, Sable Brown, Honey Brown, Antique Gold and Burnt Umber on the palette.
3. Apply some of the lighter colors randomly with a slip-slap motion, then add some of the darker ones. (There's no perfect sequence.) When finished, let dry.
Molding and Trim
1. Sand, seal with Wood Sealer, then sand again.
2. Using the same painting technique and colors as for the album cover, paint molding and trim. Slip-slap the colors on for a random look with light to dark tones.
3. When dry, cut to fit photos and/or text page topper. Outline where trim pieces will be with white chalk pencil.
4. Apply pattern lightly with graphite.
Leaves
1. Double load 3/4" flat brush with Burnt Umber and water and paint background leaves, using pivot-pull stroke with paint edge to outside of leaf.
2. Add veins and stems with thinned Burnt Umber, using script liner.
3. Add the other leaves with Plantation Pine, using same technique as for the first leaves. Veins and stems are thinned Plantation Pine.
Roses
1. Double load 3/4" flat brush with Black Plum and Titanium White. Blend until white is well blended. Starting with the bowl of the rose, work from the inside out.
2. When rose is dry, deepen the center with a small amount of Black Plum.
3. Stipple stamens with Cadmium Yellow. Let dry. Stipple in a tiny bit of Titanium White to highlight the yellow.
4. Calyxes are Plantation Pine, using script liner and comma strokes.
Helpful Hint: Try doing these strokes upside down, pulling from the bottom of the rosebud toward you.
5. Add curlicues of Burnt Umber.
FINISHING INSTRUCTIONS
Before adding photos or text, spray several light coats of Americana Matte Spray on the album to seal paint.
