Four small, flat rocks

PREPARATION
1. Scrub rocks and let dry.
2. Transfer patterns, using a light box to apply white charcoal to the lines on the pattern back. Place on rock and use pencil or stylus to transfer. (You may need to make minor adjustments so the fins fit your own rock.)
PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS
Angel Fish
1. Undercoat all areas that are not to be black with Cloud White.
2. When dry, apply a second coat in Sunshine Yellow, except for the small area around and below the mouth and extending above it to the tip of the top fin.
3. Paint in the black areas with a small chisel brush loaded with Wrought Iron Black. Use the liner brush to extend the narrow black lines and paint the mouth.
4. Fit three sets of fine, fringe-like lines into the area between the lower fin and tail and between the upper fin and tail with Cloud White.
5. Mix small amount of Sunshine Yellow with slightly more Geranium Red to get a deep reddish orange. Fill in eye circle and add three sets of fringe-like strokes to tail.
6. Add small Wrought Iron Black iris to eye with two tiny Cloud White dots on either side.
7. Add a coat of Starshine over all.
Clown Fish
1. Apply basecoat of Sunshine Yellow to every area of rock except Cloud White stripes.
2. When dry, paint Cloud White stripes, using two coats if necessary.
3. Paint Tiger Lily Orange over yellow areas.
4. Outline all features with script liner and Wrought Iron Black thinned with enough water to allow paint to flow smoothly. Add tiny black oval in center of eye.
5. Use Sunshine Yellow on a dry brush to scrub in highlighting along top of face and top of back. Add yellow highlights to top lip of fish's mouth and along top of lower lip, as well as along segments of top fin and upper edges of center fin sections and tail sections.
6. Use Patio Brick to create the look of shadows along the bottom of the fish below the mouth and below the center fin and between that fin and the tail to just above center fin as indicated on the pattern. Also shade a narrow area above the curved tail.
7. Mix a tiny amount of Wrought Iron Black into a small amount of Cloud White for a deep grey. Create shadow along the bottom portion of all the white stripes.
8. Add a Cloud White dot to either side of the fish's iris. Add Clear Coat for extra gloss.
Fantasy Fish
1. Use Wrought Iron Black to visually "erase" the areas around the top and back fins and tail to help define the shape.
2. Basecoat body with Sunshine Yellow, leaving face circle unpainted. When dry, over paint with Geranium Red, leaving a crescent of yellow uncovered just behind the face. Leave a narrow outline of yellow showing along the bottom edge of the fish body, around the face and between the top fins and tail.
3. Mix enough Cloud White into Summer Sky Blue to get a lighter shade of blue. Fill in the face area. Also create a pattern of top fins, leaving narrow edges of black between each spike.
4. At the tail, use liner brush and blue mix to create a fan-shaped series of narrow lines separated by even narrower lines of black basecoat. Add more white to the blue and outline along upper edge of spiky blue top fins.
5. Circle the outside edge of the eye with blue mix and make a second larger but equally narrow circle around the eye. Use blue mix to outline around outside of mouth and highlight tips of fan-shaped tail lines.
6. Use Wrought Iron Black and liner brush to go over all the defining outlines. Outline mouth shape just inside the light blue outline.
7. With Wrought Iron Black, paint two small fins, one directly in center of fish, the other more elongated and sweeping back from just below the head circle. When dry, add lines of Petunia Purple to detail them.
8. Fill in mouth with Petunia Purple. Create two remaining back fins with a simple cured outline filled in with diagonal lines. Fill in eye with Pot O' Gold.
9. Add two rows of diminishing Sunshine Yellow dots. When dry, paint Petunia Purple half circle on bottom of each dot. Make small iris in center of eye with white dot on either side.
10. Add Clear Coat to finish.
Classic Goldfish
1. Use Wrought Iron Black to "erase" the rock areas that are outside the fish's body. When dry, basecoat body with Sunshine Yellow. Use edge of chisel brush to extend long curving tendril-like fins from top and bottom of body into blackened areas, fitting them to the available area.
2. Paint fish Tiger Lily Orange, leaving an edge of yellow showing along the bottom. When dry, use tip of liner brush and Geranium Red to create a delicate pattern of scales. Where the tail turns back to overlap the body, reverse the direction of scales and make them smaller. Also use Geranium Red to underline each of the flowing tendrils on the top and bottom fins and add red lines to the forked tail fins.
3. Use liner and Wrought Iron Black to outline shape of overlapping tail. Add curved gill, mouth and circle the eye with black. Add a bit of Geranium Red for deep maroon and add a rounded cheek at the end of the mouth.
4. Fill in the eye with Pot O' Gold. Add Sunshine Yellow stripes to the tail fins between the red ones.
5. Softly dry-brush an edge of Sunshine Yellow along the inside curve of the gill and along the top of the fish's body from its nose to where the tail overlaps. Subtly highlight the top and bottom of the tail, too.
6. Place a black iris in the center of the eye along with a single white dot.
7. Add a coat of Starshine.
