  •     Instructions
    PREPARATION
    1. Mark center of damp terra cotta saucer and drill hole using power drill with first 1/8" and then 1/4" masonry drill bit.

    2. When saucer is dry, start checkerboard, using 3/4" scotch tape. Decide which is top of clock and mark with soapstone stick.

    3. Center first strip of tape over center hole horizontally. Place second strip as a spacer, to be removed after third strip is laid down. Continue horizontally, then vertically (with first vertical strip centered over hole) until inside area is covered.

    PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS
    1. Side load angle brush with mix of Patio Brick and a tad of Geranium Red and paint first part of checkerboard with the most opaque coverage on left side of square.

    2. When dry, lightly float shading in bottom left corner of each square with Woodland Brown.

    3. Remove tape and when totally dry, construct second part of checkerboard, using tape over painted squares. Repeat painting directions on new squares.

    4. When dry, remove tape and spatter clock face with Woodland Brown.

    5. Basecoat green areas of saucer with mix of Sprout Green and a tad of Summer Sky Blue. Add 1/8" band of purple (2 or 3:1 mix of Geranium Red and Summer Sky Blue, darkened with a tad of Wrought Iron Black).

    6. Shade around clock face on checkerboard and adjacent green band with transparent float of Woodland Brown.

    7. Transfer pattern or freehand designs.

    8. For wreath around center of clock, transfer pattern or draw circle 2-1/2" in diameter around center hole. Use various mixes of browns and brown-greens, Antique Mum and liner brush to line in grapevine wreath, going in and out around the circle.

    9. Using several brush-mixed colors of greens, transparent purple mix, Antique Mum and #4 filbert brush, double or triple load brush and paint one-stroke leaves. Pull stems in from wreath with dark mix of purple or Sprout Green darkened with Woodland Brown, using liner brush. Add flips on leaves with mix of Sprout Green and a tad of Sunshine Yellow and liner brush. Pull extra curly stems out from wreath with dark mix of Woodland Brown and Wrought Iron Black.

    10. Large grapevine wreath and leaves on broad band of green at side of saucer are done in the same way as smaller wreath. Use #10 filbert brush for leaves.

    11. Place berries at random around wreath. Dip dot them with Geranium Red and end of brush, grouping three at 12:00, 3:00, 6:00 and 9:00 positions around clock face on narrow green band. Darken lower left with brush mix of Geranium Red and tad of Summer Sky Blue. Highlight with brush mix of Geranium Red and Sunshine Yellow on upper right edge. Dip dot each berry with Sunshine Yellow and stylus for strongest highlight.

    FINISHING INSTRUCTIONS
    1. Varnish with DuraClear.

    2. Paint hands with Coal Black.

    3. When all paint is dry, assemble according to clock directions. Attach plate hanger to back.
