Jools Robertson - Stampendous! Blog Hop [Day 4]

Welcome to day four of the DecoArt Media & Stampendous! Blog Hop! Today Design Team Member Jools Robertson transforms a simple box into an intense focal piece.

Another reminder that there are prizes involved! Leave a comment on each post this week to be entered. More details below. Now... on to today's project.

Items needed :

  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics - Carbon Black
  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics - Quinacridone Burnt Orange
  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics - Quinacridone Gold
  • DecoArt Media Mediums and Specialty Products - Modeling Paste - White
  • DecoArt Media Mediums and Specialty Products - Gesso - Black
  • DecoArt Media Mediums and Specialty Products - Gesso - White
  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics - English Red Oxide
  • Andy Skinner Stamps from Stampendous: Curiosity and Toxic

Instructions :

Prepare the box and fill any gaps with DecoArt Media Modeling paste.

Apply White Gesso to the box lid and external sides.

Paint the interior with Black Gesso.

Apply Quinacridone Gold to the centre of the lid and Quinacridone Burnt Orange around the edges.

Remove the colour from the centre, working outwards dabbing gently with a wet wipe.

Stamp Andy’s all seeing eye stamp from the Curiosity set in the centre. Stamp the fabulous texture stamps from Andy’s Toxic collection around the edge with Black Stazon Ink. These are great to create a distressed crackle, peeled paint, or a wood effect.

Dry brush Media Fluid Acrylic Carbon Black around the edges.

Appl a checker board print out around the edge of the lid with Matte Medium and distress with Carbon Black.

Apply a diluted wash of approximately 50 / 50 of Quinacridone Gold and Carbon Black.

Apply brush strokes sparingly to age the white squares.

Apply English Red Oxide and Quinacridone Burnt Orange to the sides of the box.

Once dry stamp with the texture stamps.

Lastly, dry brush around the edges with Carbon Black.
